NEW JERSEY TRAIL RUNNING SERIES |
Series Point Structure
Each New Jersey Trail Running Series Race Scoring is based on a 1000 point system. The winner of the race is given the full 1000 points. The remainder of the field is given points on a descending scale that is based on the total number of finishers in the race. We simply divide the 1000 points by the total number of finishers in the race to get the points differential, and then apply the differential to the order of finish to get the final score for the race.
To give an example, say 100 people finish a New Jersey Trail Series race. The points differential for this race would be:
1000 points/100 finishers = 10 points.
With the winner getting the full 1000 points, 10 points would then be subtracted for each place:
1st place = 1000 points
2nd place = 990 points
3rd place = 980 points
...and so on.
The points gained from each NJTRS race will be added to your total points for the series. If you do more than 5 NJTRS races, we will add only the top 5 scores. At the end of the year, the trail runners with the greatest amount of points will be declared the winners.
In case of ties, ties will be broken by the number of head-to-head "wins" between the two runners. If this still doesn’t break the tie, we will look at the time difference between the two during those head-to-head encounters. If this still doesn’t break the tie, then the tie will be declared final.
