Snowflake Series #1 Roundup

Complete results of the race.

A very mild day greeted the runners of the first Snowflake Series at Allaire State Park; a perfect day for a race! The day was cloudy, but the temperature at race time was about 50 degrees Fahrenheit, as good as you can get for a January day in the Northeast. Fifteen minutes before the race start, the runners were prepped on what to expect for the 2 loop course. Like many trail running events, the course had some unexpected surprises including a downed tree and about 5 wood chip mounds that were placed in the middle of the wood chip trail that the runners had to negotiate around, or for the more adventuresome types, over.

As the gun went off (well, we yelled “GO” instead), the runners jockeyed for position, with Jesus Resendiz taking the immediate lead in front of Ken Vercammen and John Guth. Jesus would run away from the rest of the pack to win the race in 22 minutes 40 seconds, over 2 minutes faster than the second place finisher. In summary, the men’s race was as follows:

Jesus Resendiz – 22:40
Ken Vercammen – 25:00
John Guth – 25:46

In the women’s race, Joy Jaworowski and Jane Parks led the rest of the women after the first loop, 2 miles into the race. Joy would later finish first overall woman at a very speedy 26 minutes and 4 seconds. In summary, the women’s race was as follows:

Joy Jaworowski – 26:04
Jane Parks – 27:56
Chris Murphy – 28:35
